Matthew 28:19-20 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
As I scroll through all of the social media content, I see people engaged in what appears to be Christian activity. All of this is good because it brings Jesus to people who might not have a chance to experience otherwise. But I've noticed that there seem to be more people interested in preaching, teaching, and performing, and the reason for the gospel, who is Jesus, seems to be neglected. It appears we have forgotten the assignment.
Our assignment is posted in the Holy Bible.
Go. Our assignment involves leaving the comfort of our padded church pews, recliners, and safety zones.
Make disciples. Our assignment involves making disciples. How do we do that? We talk about Jesus more than we do ourselves. A good start is telling about all the good things He's done for you.
Baptizing in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit? When was the last time someone was baptized at your church, or in a pond, or a swimming pool, or in a river, or a lake?
Teach people to obey everything Jesus has commanded. Oh oh! There's that dirty "O" word! This world hates that word. For that matter, some of us hate that word, obedience.
The blessing in understanding our assignment and carrying it out is that Jesus promised He will be with us all the time, all the way to the end. Let's glorify Jesus instead of ourselves. After all, He is the reason for the Gospel all Christians are supposed to preach.
