Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. - Matthew 5:5
You've probably heard it a few times: "Only the strong survive." Well, that all depends on where you're getting your strength from. Politicians and executive members of a committee may rely on personal power to get things done, assert their authority, and even hurt someone's character to get what they want. You've probably heard this one, too; "This is a dog-eat-dog world."
Once again, Jesus has spun worldly concepts and has given us the opposite of what the world sees as valuable. He is saying those who are meek shall inherit this earth. He is saying meekness isn't a weakness. God's way will always contradict the world's, pointing us to a better path with better results.
What do meek people do that's so different than people in the world?
The meek are willing to give when others take.
Love when others hate.
Help when others abuse.
Giving up our rights to serve others.
If you are in "meek mode," you will one day receive everything God has in store. You will inherit this earth.
Lord, I pray that we will be meek in everything we do, in and outside of the walls of our churches. I pray you will strengthen us to be quiet even when we are right. We remember that you are the best warrior we can have on our side, and if revenge is to be carried out, we can step back and let you repay. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
