He answered and said to them, "He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none; and he who has no food, let him do likewise." - Luke 3:11
We have lost our way in a lot of areas. Helping people in need is one of those ways. We have become so greedy and selfish that we have forgotten what Jesus said. "When you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!" - Matthew 25:40
It seems society looks at people who are homeless, poverty-stricken, or less fortunate with disdain and judgment. And the very sad part about it is sometimes the people who frown upon the needy are the ones who say they love Jesus and are God-fearing Christians.
Christmas is a season of giving. Let's start giving again. Let's start loving people who are less fortunate enough by offering them some of our possessions. Afterall. Isn't this the mind and heart of Christ? Aren't we supposed to be the hands and feet of Jesus carrying love and substance to other people?
Prayer:
Father. You told us to love others as if we were loving ourselves, but some of us aren't. You told us the poor we would always have with us. Help us not to lose sight of what we're supposed to be doing as your disciples. Forgive us for not doing the most important thing we must do, and that's to show genuine love in a world full of hatred. In the name of Jesus - Amen.
