Psalm 19:14
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in your sight. O Lord, my strength and redeemer.
We are living in an opinionated society. Every time we turn on our televisions, open a newspaper, sign on to social media, and have a person-to-person conversation, we have an
opportunity to voice our opinions. As believers who accepted Jesus as our Savior, we are commanded to speak useful things that come from the truth in God's word. We should test our words and hearts before we speak. The main question is, "Does God accept what I'm about to say?"
Colossians 4:6
Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one,"
Salt makes everything better. Salt makes our food taste better. Salt preserves. And, much
to my surprise, it is used for cleaning too! It is good to analyze what we say before we say it; our conversation will be like salt; what we say can improve a situation. Our speech acts as a preservative, bringing peace between people. Our speech can cleanse what has been made filthy and corrupt by gossip, lies, misinformation, and past experiences.
We believers should never disagree with someone's opinion or choice so hard that we wind
up saying something that taints the image of God. We should always be ready to infuse the fruit of the Spirit to diffuse the spirit of the devil and the hatred and anger he brings.
I could've complained, too, but that would have made the man complain worse than he was already doing.
I was in a well-known fast food restaurant known for its small hamburgers. There was only two employees and it was during the lunch rush, Several customers including myself had been waiting for awhile, well a long time, and a man became irrate and a woman became impatient. The woman asked for a refund. The man became loud and verbally abusive. He yelled at the female employee, and I said, "Hey! It's alright, I don't mind waiting." The man calmed down, and the employee was relieved. I could've complained too, but that would've made the man complain worse than he was already doing.
To God be the glory! I feel the Lord used me to improve the situation and show the image of Jesus' humility, meekness, and gentleness.
Lord, help us realize the power of our speech and how we can make things better. I pray we realize that you are hearing everything we say. I pray we test our words and hearts to make sure what we say will be accepted or rejected by you. In your precious Son Jesus' name, Amen.
