Matthew 20:29-34
Now as they went out of Jericho, a great multitude followed Him. And behold, two blind men sitting by the road, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, saying, “Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David!” Then the multitude warned them that they should be quiet; but they cried out all the more, saying, “Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David!” So Jesus stood still and called them, and said, “What do you want Me to do for you?” They said to Him, “Lord, that our eyes may be opened.” So Jesus had compassion and touched their eyes. And immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed Him.
There was a large crowd following Jesus, and rightfully so. Jesus was known to heal people of many sicknesses that would've been suffered through to death had He not done so. Jesus had given many people who were tormented and held captive by demonic forces freedom through His delivering power. So these two blind men knew that Jesus could give them their sight back.
Imagine two blind men, standing in a crowd of hundreds or thousands of people, hearing but not seeing what was causing all the stir and commotion from the people. They probably had experienced large, excited crowds in the past, but they knew it was something different this time. Somebody told them, or they heard many calling Jesus by His name in an effort to get His attention. So what they did would change their lives forever. They cried out to Jesus as loud as they could, but some people in the crowd tried to silence them.
But they were determined to get Jesus' attention, so they shouted His name even louder. Jesus finally heard them and restored their sight.
Many times, we walk around in the dark because the devil has blinded us to the truth. Many times, we know we need Jesus because we've heard how He can change any situation because of His compassion for all people, no matter what they've done or who they are.
But, like in this situation, the world and our peers attempt to drown us out when we cry out to Jesus for the help we know we need. The world and Our peers tell us that Jesus doesn't heal anymore. They might try to pull us away from Jesus by offering us things of this world that will silence our voices by doing everything but tell us to shut up when we're giving Him praise, when we worship Him with our lives, when we pray, when we go to church and when we try to talk about Him in our conversations.
We have to overcome this by being even more determined to get His attention by calling on Him and honoring Him the way these two blind men did. Call on Him and honor Him amongst a crowd of believers and unbelievers. So keep calling on Jesus no matter what your friends think or say. Call Jesus when it's not popular.
